History of the Today Sponge

2009 - Today Sponge is re-launched in more than 13,000 drug stores across the United States and on-line; it will be carried in 6,500 CVS/ Longs drug stores in May and in 6,700 Walgreens and 200 Duane Reade locations in June.

2008 - Mayer Labs signs agreement with Alvogen Group, Inc. for exclusive distribution rights of the Today Sponge in the United States, Europe and Canada.

2007 - Synova Healthcare, Inc, acquires Allendale Pharmaceuticals. 11 months later Synova files for bankruptcy. Alvogen Group, Inc. purchases rights to the Today Sponge.

2005 - The Today Sponge is re-introduced in Canada in March 2003 and in the U.S in September of 2005. Allendale Pharmaceuticals purchased the patents and the complex manufacturing equipment in 1998 to produce the Today Sponge. New FDA standards force repeated delays.

1994 - The Today Sponge is removed from the U.S market due to factory compliance issues. Rather than update the plant to meet requirements, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals stopped selling the sponge.

1983 - The Today Sponge is introduced in the United States and quickly becomes the most popular OTC female contraceptive in North America.
